Managing our attention and focus is challenging enough, but managing our emotions, especially negative ones, can be even more difficult.

Over-reacting can mean feeling deeply wounded by a casual comment, mortified over being corrected, or totally humiliated by a snide remark.

Where others might be slightly miffed, a bit embarrassed, or contrite, we feel like we’ve been assaulted.

Others don’t understand what we’re experiencing, “Calm down. It’s no big deal. You’re too sensitive. Let it go. Don’t be so touchy!” Helpful phrases that never help when you’re feeling completely crushed.

This overreaction, even to a completely neutral observation, is toxic for relationships, social lives, and careers.

Let’s explore the link between ADHD & RSD, and I’ll share a simple but powerful phrase my wife and I use to dial down the upset when one of us (usually me) is feeling hurt, distraught, and under attack.
