This Helps Me Stay On Task
Getting distracted when you’re in the middle of something is so frustrating. It’s even more disheartening to become distracted when a task is 95% complete, then lose track of it, and never come back to finish it.
How many folks with ADHD have lots on the go, clutter everywhere, stuff in piles, and everything mixed together? Well, I know at least one individual who struggles to stay on task. I’ll let you guess who I’m talking about. And yes, it’s me.
There are a number of strategies or tricks I use to stay on task. I wanted to share one that has seen me complete big tasks, such as creating and delivering a 26-episode season of a TV series. When people who know I have ADHD ask, “How did you manage to pull that off?” To be honest, at the time, I thought that I didn’t have a choice. It was all on me!
But that kind of pressure is paralyzing.
Instead of being driven by the threat of failure, I focused on what success would look like: working with great actors, making a clever comedy series, and entertaining hundreds of thousands of people. The key is this – I have a bigger context. A clear and exciting goal. It’s helped me finish complex, intimidating projects, as well as the mundane ones.
