Dealing With Chaos and ADHD
Neurotypical folks may not understand why we ADDers, who often seem to live in a state of constant chaos, can be so discombobulated by unexpected events or minor setbacks. Even simple problems can feel like calamities.
However, just as we struggle to manage attention and focus, we can also be challenged to manage our emotions. Many partners, colleagues, and friends may be surprised at how quickly we can crash and burn, and then just as quickly bounce back to normal.
Luckily, by working on our ability to improve our focus, attention, and awareness, we also become better at diminishing the sudden descent into panic, anger, or despair. I can still find myself thrown off by a sudden, unforeseen turn of events, but it no longer sends me into a tailspin or haunts me for days afterwards.
