I Love My ADHD…Sometimes. It’s Situational
How do you feel about your ADHD? Love it? Hate it? For me, my relationship with this ‘Disorder’ alternates between those two extremes. It depends on the situation.
Sometimes it’s an advantage, my secret weapon. In other circumstances, it is a ball and chain that leaves me frustrated, disappointed, and even despondent.
What I’ve learned to do is find circumstances or create situations where it’s an asset, and, as much as possible, minimize the time and energy I spend on tasks and areas where I struggle.
The key has been realizing that I don’t have to do everything, that the days I spent slogging through tax paperwork could be handled with ease by a bookkeeper. In fact, they actually enjoy doing accounting and taxes! I know! Weird! They’re almost as grateful to be doing that stuff as I am thankful not to be doing that stuff. Win-Win!
