Understanding ADHD Paralysis

Why Do I Avoid Easy Tasks?

Overcoming Inertia. Ugh!
It’s a core challenge for ADHD folks. We berate, nag, and curse ourselves for procrastinating over the smallest things. I’ve tried lots of tricks and clever strategies to overcome procrastination, and some work quite well, but rarely consistently.

Here’s the conundrum: I have boundless enthusiasm for new, interesting, complicated projects, yet I cannot muster the energy to do simple, routine tasks.

I’ve always struggled with this but never asked why. I was so focused on what I ‘should’ be accomplishing, but I didn’t pause to look inward and identify what was stopping me.

Then, last week, I was talking to ADHD coach Elaine Taylor-Klaus (ImpactParents.com), and she offered some thoughts on why we resist and even resent doing things. Since that conversation, I’ve utilized this new knowledge to get unstuck several times. Since the good folks on my Patreon page picked overcoming inertia as the challenge that frustrates them the most, I thought I’d make a video about it. Thanks to our patrons for their support, which allows me to do this.
