Let’s Talk about ADHD and Overwhelm

One of the few constants in my life has been a feeling of OVERWHELM!

There is a fine line between having a lot on the go and having far too much to finish. And I have no idea where that fine line is.

There’s a tipping point, and with ADHD, it’s so easy to go from being “Happy and Busy” to feeling “Despondent, Frustrated, and Exhausted.” Lately, I’ve come to see that what allows me to slip into despair has to do with prioritizing, being unrealistic about time, and saying yes to everything.

They talk about ‘Time Management,’ but, since ‘time waits for no man,’ what I can control and manage is where I spend my time. When I get real about how much I can accomplish in a day, I inevitably create a shorter, more achievable To-Do list. The result of which, surprisingly enough, is that I get much more done. It’s counter-intuitive, but it works.

Additionally, it’s important to notice and manage my energy levels, which don’t so much ‘Ebb-and-Flow’ as ‘Rocket-Upwards-and-Then-Drop-Off-a-Cliff.’ Did I mention I have ADHD?

Best,

Rick Green
