Turn Off the News!

Constantly checking the news was making me increasingly depressed, overwhelmed and hopeless about the world. Anxious and agitated, I felt helpless to do anything. Finally, I took a break from the constant barrage of bad news.

I admit the idea of a break seemed irresponsible. Even cowardly. Wasn’t I just avoiding reality?

In fact, the opposite proved true. Instead of rattling my nervous system absorbing scary images of distant disasters and conflicts, I reconnected to reality. To my reality. To my life. In short order felt calmer, optimistic, and at peace. And to my surprise, I felt far less helpless about dealing with the world.
